Mouth Guard Services at New Era Dental
Teeth grinding and teeth clenching are two different ways people exhibit bruxism.
Most people grind or clench their teeth occasionally; however, habitual teeth grinding and teeth clenching, usually at night, can be damaging to oral health.
Teeth Grinding vs. Teeth Clenching
Teeth Grinding
Teeth grinding is slightly different from teeth clenching. Grinding is essentially the repeated and forceful rubbing together of the upper and lower teeth. This grinding can flatten out the natural grooves of the tooth, weaken the tooth and potentially cause tooth loss. Like teeth clenching, teeth grinding may also cause headaches, stiffness and pain in the jaw.Teeth Clenching
Teeth clenching is when tightening of the jaw exerts a large force upon upper and lower teeth, and strains the jaw muscles. The excessive pressure can cause headaches, earaches, and it can also lead to temporomandibular joint disorder (commonly known as TMD).Teeth Grinding & Teeth Clenching Treatment
Sport Mouth Guards
Although New Era Dental supports all kind of sports activity, we highly recommend using a sport guard during exercising or training. Unfortunately, most dental trauma during playing sports occurs to the front teeth. Sport mouth guards are a very practical and cost effective way of avoiding teeth trauma and the subsequent consequences of expensive dental procedures due to loss or fracture of any tooth.
